Tune In!

After a few weeks of decision making,
finally the candidate has been selected from a range of TV tuner.
The candidates being reviewed were:
Leadtek's WinFAST TV2000XP RM/EXPERT
Snazio's TVPVR
Hauppauge's WinTV Nicam Stereo
Hauppauge's WinTV PVR-150

And the winner is clear.
HAUUPPAUGE WinTV PVR-150
The only PVR that incoporates MPEG2 hardware-encoding among the rest of the pcis that soft-encodes.
The advantage of hardware encoding is clear, that is there ain't no need for CPU memory in processing the encoding, though some memory is still required to transfer from the buffer memory to the HDD.
At the cost of about S$160, WinTV PVR-150 cost 1.5x more than its Nicam Stereo budget card. However, it is 3x more expensive than the TV2000XP RM by Leadtek.
Even though the Leadtek's WinFAST TV2000XP boasts good software capabilities at a good price, user (forum) reviews seem to be against it.

All in all, WinTV-PVR is definitely a basic necessity in your HTPC for a mere S$150.
