The Banana Leaf Apolo

I think I really deserve a regulars' Membership Card, for being a faithful supporter of The Banana Leaf Apolo. The Banana Leaf Apolo serves a variety of North Indian cuisine awarded by word-of-mouth for their culinary excellence , from tourists to locals. Be it Caucasian or Chinese, everyone is more than willing to give a 'thumbs-up'. The Banana Leaf Apolo can be found on Race Course Road on the Little India NEL side, another spacious and newer branch can be found at The Arcade along Serangoon Road, behind Tekka Mall.

Upon sitting, the waiters will serve you a platter of fragrant pappads, on-the-house, which I adore and would usually ask for more. As usual, knowing that the portion of each dishes are deceiving small but able to feed at least 3 to 4, I would order no more than two dishes. I would ask for white rice, which costs S$2.50. Do not be alarmed, for the rice is served generously and free-flow. Most importantly, complimentary cabbage and long beans are served alongside the rice. Being a seafood-lover and especially fish, I would usually order their popular Fish head curry (S$18 for small). Unlike the chinese-style curry, the fish head curry is not overly sweetened with thick coconut milk. The gravy is light and carries a tinge of assam flavour with traditional Indian spices and condiments. The meat from the fish head is easy to eat without much fiddling with bones or scales, most importantly, fresh, though freshness largely depends on the catch and probably the turnover of the customers. Another favourite would be Murg Korma (S$9.50), which is a tasty and not too spicy dish of tendor chicken chunks served in a flavour-rich thick chestnut gravy.
With the rice and greens (not really very 'green') displayed before you on a huge banana leaf and the dishes served, you are ready to tuck-in! I love FOOD!
