EATZ: Miss Clarity Cafe

The first impression that I got from "Miss Clarity Cafe" was "girly girly pinky power!" But I have heard too many good reviews from programmes and magazines, and seeing the endless queues got me sold!

"Miss Clarity Cafe" do not do any reservations and entertains only walk-in customers. I got as early during dinner time, but still surprised to bump into a crowded restaurant. Despite the bright fancy colours decorating the restaurant, it was dimly lit. Though air-conditioned, there isn't much to worry about smelly like the kitchen after dining. The restaurant interior is tightly lined with coloured 'canteen-like' tables accommodating the most number of customers possible, hence we were like dining together with our neighbouring table. There is no specific cuisine served at "Miss Clarity Cafe". They serve sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, stews, risottos, grills, burgers as well as desserts including "Ben & Jerry Ice Cream". They even have their own rendition of Cordon Bleu in fish/chicken, Bangers & Mash, BLACK ANGUS prime ribs/sirloin and even Wagyu Beef! There is also a good range of coffee, tea and smoothies to pick from. If you prefer to keep it simple like what I did, for S$3 make any food dish into a set meal inclusive of soup/salad, barley/lime/coffee/tea and dessert of the day. Or S$6 to make the dessert into a B&J ice cream. I had mine as a single scoop of regular chocolate ice-cream. The most attractive thing about "Miss Clarity Cafe" is that all food dishes are very affordable and reasonably priced at below $20, with entree starting from S$7.50 (that is if you have not ordered yourself a Wagyu Beef!). We ordered "Garlic Crusted Scallops" for appetizer, "Old MacDonald Had A Farm" and "Seafood Paella".

Starters
Mushroom Soup
S$3 for set meal
If you think that this is another "Campbell" creamy mushroom soup, you are so wrong! The mushroom soup is not very creamy though still rather thick. Most importantly, the fragrance of the Swiss brown and maybe Shitake mushroom is so strong that I can almost taste it without drinking it. There are actually visible finely minced mushrooms giving texture ! This is one power broth!

Shelled Appetizers
Golden Crusted Scallops
S$9.80 for 1/2 doz (S$18 for 1 doz)
Scallops smeared with chef's special garlic herb butter & bread crumbs & baked till golden brown. The succulent scallops are huge! The taste of the crispy bread crumbs was rather strong, which risked overpowering the taste of the scallops. This is good stuff! No wonder it is a 'Chef's Recommendation'. I was wondering what the underlying crystals were. I was not too stupid to try, in case they are just pebbles.

Main Course
Old MacDonald Had A Farm
S$16.00
Medley of steak, lamb chop, crispy chicken, chipolata, bacon, ham & potato wedges served with clarity's special black pepper sauce topped with sunny side up. An interesting idea to name a dish after the title of a nursery rhyme. But the name speaks it all. Every common farm reared meat has made its way onto the plate in their most common manifestations. My only complain is the idea of drowning the crispy breaded chicken chop and wedges in the black pepper sauce. My sunny side up was rather 'solid' though I prefer it very runny. Tasty, juicy, filling! Another 'Chef's Recommendation'.

Paella
Seafood Paella
S$14.80
Medley of seafood stewed with saffron flavoured risotto. What seemed to look like Italian 'claypot rice' or baked pasta, is actually saffron and tomato-flavoured fragrant and tasty risotto. When we thought that paella is supposed to be served on a pan, it came in the least expected way. Seafood includes 2 mussels, baby mussels, squid rings, crab sticks, fried fish and shrimps. Risotto can be really filling, but with that great taste, we had to clean it up. Yet another 'Chef's Recommendation'.

Verdict

The food are very affordable and the 'Chef's Recommendations' did live up to their reputation. The "Golden Cursted Scallops" is fantastic! While 'Old MacDonald Had A Farm' is very worth the buck, but it lacks the unique taste to make it stand out from grills from other restaurants. The portions are reasonably huge and the idea of making everything (including starters) into a set for S$3 is great! Their mushroom soup definitely deserves two thumbs up! Last but not least, the wide variety in the menu is just going to keep customers returning in order to try everything! At least it works for me! Good place, good food, good price! Need I say more? It is "where happy people meet!" Visit "Miss Clarity Cafe" today!
