EATZ: Clayfish & Shrimps in Tuck Kee (Ipoh) Sah Ho Fun

Tuck Kee (Ipoh) Sah Ho Fun
531A Hong Lim Food Centre
Upper Cross Street #02-41A
Operating Hours:Daily: 11am - 3pm (Closed on Sundays)
Hidden in an obscure corner of Hong Lim Complex where I had my Bah Kut Teh (Hokkien-style) and famous for the Ah Kow Minced Meat Noodle, Curry Chicken Noodles and dumplings, is the Tuck Kee (Ipoh) Sah Ho Fun. This is also considered a Seafood Hor Fun, but except that there the hor fun are not pre-fried and you get clayfish and shrimps instead of smaller shrimps and squid rings. Ipoh-style Sah Ho Fun originated from Ipoh, a state in Peninsula Malaysia and has been rather uncommon but popular among the local foodfare, not to mention those with clayfish. I always visit Hong Lim Complex on Sundays and never noticed other diners having the Sah Ho Fun until one weekday afternoon when I was on off. Then I was so determined to locate the stall and try it. Since their operation timing is so short that most of time that I visited Hong Lim Complex, they were closed. One thing is that they cover up their menu boards such that little did I know Tuck Kee is just located beside Pasta Express and two stalls away from Ah Kow Minced Meat Noodle! I have always been there but just failed to spot this gem before me! Tuck Kee (Ipoh) Sha Ho Fun has been recommended by many food reviewers.
I finally got to try it on another of day!

Clayfish Sha Ho Fun
S$5
A whole clayfish and three halved shrimps on smooth and thin strips of white hor fun in a specially blended Ipoh hor fun sauce.

Wanton Soup
S$2
A standard $2 portion comes with four wantons and vegetables in a tasty shrimp stock soup.

Verdict
Finally being able to try it, I was so full of anticipation for a good time. Indeed, I was not disappointed at all. The smooth thin strips of hor fun slides down the throat easily especially with the tasty brown sauce. The clayfish cut into half reveals succulent tasty meat is served alongside three slices of halved shrimps and vegetables. The seafood is very fresh and crunchy! Chilli is not added to the noodle and diners can add to suit their individual taste. The cheapest starts at S$5 and goes up to S$12 with three sizes in all. They serve wanton soup as well and most diners will usually have them as a full set. A standard size comes with four wantons and a few strands of vegetables, though the number of wanton is miserable, but the wanton taste fabulously restaurant quality! The Tuck Kee (Ipoh) Sah Ho Fun is definitely worth the money and the off day! A must try!
