The YF-21 was initially developed by General Galaxy as a replacement to the existing "VF-11 Thunderbolt Variable Fighter in "Project Super Nova". During the tests, Guld Goa Bowman piloted the YF-21 but ended up in a face-off against childhood rival Isamu Alva Dyson who piloted another test mecha, YF-19 (developed by Shinsei Industries). The overheated test session turned battle was suspended and both mechas subsequently substituted by UCAV developed Ghost X-9, unmanned Stealth prototype. In the final of the 4-episode MACROSS PLUS OVA, Guld fought the Ghost X-9 with the YF-21. However, in order for the YF-21 to catch up with the agile Ghost X-9, Guld had the YF-21's gravitational safety limiters removed. Despite being able to eventually destroy the Ghost X-9, the pressure due to the gravity overcharge also killed Guld, resulting in the crash of YF-21.

The YF-21 has got pretty decent articulation of the limbs, however, the head is not too flexible. It can only be turned slightly to 45 degrees left and right, tilt is impossible.
Accessories
The accessories includes beam blast effects, arm boosters, rear fin boosters, beam rifle and 2 pairs of hands.

There are holes on the rear and bottom of the feets for the included stand (not shown).

Definitely more COOL!
One of the beam blast effect is actally intended for the fist as a punching effect. The other two are attached on the arm fins to demonstrate the shield purpose of the fins. Note that either the effects or arm boosters can be attached at any one time.
The YF-21 is of a smaller size than regular Revoltech.
This is a comparison to REVOLTECH No.045 Type-J9 Griffon AQUA-type.
