Hong Kong ~ Dec 2010: Part III

Hong Kong ~ Dec 2010
Part III

Part III of the series, we visited Tai O Village.
Since my first visit to HK, my bro has been recommending me to visit Tai O.
You really have to trust the locals' recommendations.
Tai O is indeed a beautiful village that you can only see in HK drama.
The only thing is that it is really very hard to get there.
From Tung Chung, need to grab a 1-hour bus ride through the winding mountains to get to Tai O.

A museum of traditional Chinese stuff can be found here.

I wonder if anyone still uses a sedan.

Preserved seafood and barbequed cuttlefish.

This is a fishing village that withstood the modernization.
Beautiful!

This mobile cart has an incredible length of queue.
They are waiting for this gentleman in shades to make a local favourite snack "egg balls".
Some say it is the best in Hong Kong!

Dried fish and dried duck egg yolks.

A community of cats stay in Tai O as well.
They probably survive on the fish too.

Some of these "tin can" huts built over water, are becoming empty and abandoned.

This elderly man is making "tea cakes" for the sale in the whole of Tai O village.

"Cup cakes" sold on push carts are becoming a dying trade in the fast-moving HK.

Cannot resist the barbequed crustaceans.

Enjoy a local flower tea.

Watching the sun set from Tai O is simply breath-taking!

Dinner in a Shanghai Restaurant in Mongkok.
The course dinner for 2 persons is not expensive at all!

We ordered a hairy crab to try.
Not really what we expected.
Anyway the dark patches on the claws are the hair.

A very popular roast meat shop that is packed with Central's working class during lunch hour.

GOD aka Goods of Desire sells all sorts of really interesting stuff for homes.

Before departure from HK, eat again!
Decided not have Cafe de Coral and go for this new stall.

Hoots!
Check out my hoots from this trip.
On behalf of my bro, scored this TAMRON AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 VC superzoom lens for Canon mount.
Also scored a Canon 430EX II flash.
Both items come with 1-year international warranty.

Scored a basic protector for the Tammy.

Was deciding what to score for this trip.
It was either a NIKKOR AF-S 28-70 f/2.8 or a Nikon AF-S 105mm f/2.8 VR N MACRO.
Settled for the latter, since it was actually much more worth it than the trinity lens which was gonna be quite a hoot.

Snacks

Wife insists that she can no longer find Super Lemon in Singapore.
"Wife Biscuit" from Wing Wah is always on the standard shopping list.

Cookies from a really hard to find but very popular cookie shop.
These puffs are insanely fantastic!
Wife scored these during her work visit.

We attempted to bring back the best HK egg tart, but it is better having it piping hot!
At least, they came back in proper shape.

Toys!
I really wanted to score the exclusive HK release of Hot Toy Ironman Mark IV,
but it was only for pre-orders.
Still I managed to settle with these steals.
ROBOT SPIRITS 078 - RX-78 GUNDAM - S$33
ROBOT SPIRITS 079 - MSN-06S SINANJU - S$48 (crazy people sell this for S$80 in Singapore!)

COMPOSITE Ver.KA VIRTUAROID MBV-04 TEMJIN - S$49
Could not resist scoring this piece, Virtual On brings back childhood memories!

My overseas shopping trip will never be complete with scoring DVDs.
